The second sleep

In the year 1468, a young priest named Christopher Fairfax travels to a remote village in the English countryside to conduct the funeral of another priest. He discovers that his predecessor had become fascinated by mysterious ancient objects and forbidden writings. As Fairfax investigates the circumstances surrounding the priest’s death, he begins to question everything he has been taught about religion, history and the world in which he lives. Gradually, a startling truth emerges about the civilisation that existed before his own.
