Crusoe’s Daughter

In 1904, six-year-old Polly Flint is sent to live with her two aunts in an isolated yellow house beside the sea. Surrounded by marshland and cut off from much of the outside world, Polly grows up fascinated by Robinson Crusoe. She remains in the house for most of her long life while the twentieth century transforms the world around her. The novel follows Polly through love, loneliness, war, social change and old age, exploring how literature and imagination shape an entire life.
